Customs Court awards sentence to lady booked in mobile smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court awarded 16 days imprisonment and fine of Rs100,000 to suspect lady namely Seema Rauf daughter of Abdul Rauf, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid foreign origin mobile phones and memory cards valuing to Rs5,809,413.

On October 4, 2019 above mentioned suspect lady appeared before the court and filed an application for plead guilty and left herself on the mercy of the court.

After the hearing, court awarded sentence which already undergone and fine Rs100,000 to her.

According to the prosecution, on credible information above mentioned lady was intercepted at International Arrival Hall, JIAP, who coming from Dubai by M/s Emirate Airline’s flight No EK-608 and she was asked to search her body and luggage.

Investigation officer further informed that court that during the search, customs officials found 11 I-Phones-7 used worth Rs. 541, 200. 03 I-Phone-X new worth Rs369,000 and 36,000 memory cards valuing to Rs. 4,899,213 from a pair of black color crepe bandage and one black color polyester swimming costume speedo brand, worn by above lady for concealment of mobile phones and memory cards.

He submitted that she was asked to produce lawful documents of said goods, however, she fails to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after formalities, she was taken into custody and goods also were seized by the customs officials.
