MULTAN: The Customs Collectorate of Appraisement has failed an attempt to smuggle imported branded cell phones and laptops of worth millions from Multan International Airport.
According to details, Customs authorities received information that smuggling attempt can be made through Multan International Airport and in pursuance of information and directions conveyed by the Appraisement Collector Saima Shehzad.
Assistant Collector Ahmad Zaheer directed his staff to remain vigilant at the Multan International Airport for the cautious monitoring of the passengers goods in order to avoid any clearance of suspicious goods.
During the examination of the passenger goods arriving from Dubai by Fly Dubai flight no.FZ-339, Customs teams focused a suspicious passengers holding two luggage bags and a hand carry shopping bag who trying to escape the examination at the Customs Counters availing the green channel facility.
Customs teams took the luggage in their custody for examination purpose from possession of the passenger who identified him as Hamid Hussain son of Sheikh Hussain , Aaqif and Muhammad Kashif son of Muhammad Anwar Butt. They were all residents of Karachi city.
Sources told Customs Today that said passengers have concealed more than 50 expansive latest model mobile phones of different brands and laptops in their luggage. All recovered cell phones and laptops were recovered during examination of luggage’s were used ones. After recovering expansive imported cell phones, Customs teams detained said cell phones and laptops for smuggling attempt. The net value of the detained cell phones and laptops was almost Rs.2 million.
The recovered goods were detained under section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969 and further investigation in the smuggling of cell phones and laptops was still under process.
