FBR to launch ‘Track & Trace’ system for cement, sugar & fertilizer sectors this week

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will start process of implementing fully automated ‘Track and Trace’ system for cement, sugar and fertilizer sectors during current week.

Sources told media, that the FBR also intended to implement Track and Trace system also for aerated beverages and petroleum products in the next stage. During current week, initial process would be started for three sectors i.e. cement, sugar and fertilizer.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi had informed that the FBR will implement fully automated ‘Track and Trace’ system for four major sectors, i.e., aerated beverages, sugar, cement and fertilizer during 2019-20.

Last month, FBR had directed all cigarette manufacturers to implement fully automated ‘Track and Trace’ system on tobacco products in six months period. The directions were issued by Project Director ‘Track and Trace’ system to the cigarette manufacturers during the last meeting of the stakeholders held at the FBR House. Out of 11 cigarette manufacturers, the meeting was attended by two major companies and three local manufacturers.

The authorities of Azad Kashmir assured the FBR that the AJK tax department would implement the said project for units operating within the jurisdiction of the AJK.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has already issued notice to the FBR to file report on the grant of license of track and trace system for tobacco products to the M/s Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
