KARACHI: The Customs Court granted bail to suspects namely Ibadatullah son of Muhammad Usman and Omar Khalid son of Khalid Nisar who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband goods.
On 28 December 2019, counsel for the accused persons filed bail petition and argued that his clients have falsely been implicated in this case and prosecution has not produced charge sheet, therefore, court may grant their bail.
After hearing the argument, court granted their bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed them to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
On last date of hearing, investigation officer customs preventive has submitted progress report and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino trawler bearing registration number: TLR-277 and during the search, found 51 bales of second hand clothing weighing 13, 900 kg and additional cargo other than the bona fide Afghan Cargo Rs 574,464 and steel files of alloy steel (all type of hand tools valuing of Rs 20,995,058.
He argued that at that movement, customs officials asked diver to produce lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, after the formalities, customs officials seized all goods and diver was also arrested by customs department.
Investigation officer further submits that during the investigation, it was conformed that suspect along with others are involved in smuggling of said goods and violated the customs laws.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
