Importers appeal Member Customs to take notice of slow functioning of WeBOC

ISLAMABAD: Importers appealed to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Member Customs (Operations) Dr. Jawwad Awais Agha to take notice of the issue being faced by importers and clearing agents due to very slow functioning of customs WeBOC (Web-Based One Customs) system.
The importers stated that due to this problem most of the import clearance is pending while the assessment officer also facing problems. There is lot of hue and cry among the importers and clearing agents due to this.
It is important to mention here, that currently there is issue with network system due to which members as well as customs department is facing difficulty and irregularities within the WeBOC system. Network team is working on it for a rapid solution.
Earlier, in a statement Tahir Abbasi, Senior Vice President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry urged FBR to revise and upgrade WeBOC and remove their flaws.
He said that if a businessman did not use WeBOC account for 60 days, the account was deactivated which was creating problems for business community. He stressed that account deactivation period should be increased from 60 days to 120 days.
He said that for reactivation of account, all those documents were demanded that were provided at the time of opening of account, therefore, he emphasized that account reactivation process should be streamlined to reduce documentary requirements.
He said that WeBOC should be integrated with the online systems of SECP and other relevant organizations to facilitate the business community in registration and other processes.The participants highlighted various issues related to WeBOC and gave useful suggestions to address them.
