KARACHI: The Customs Court extended physical remand of suspect namely Mir Ahmed S/o Abdul Aziz and sent him back to customs department, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle contraband branded shampoo, cloths, tyres, blankets etc total valuing of Rs16,031,113.
During the hearing on January 3, 2019, investigation officer of customs department produced the above mentioned suspect before the court and informed that on an actionable information, customs officials intercepted one passenger bus Aryana Daewoo coach bearing registration number BSA-396 and during the search, customs officials recovered 18 kg One-2-One brand Indian origin Gutkha, 25 kg of Monosodium Glutamte (Ajinomoto) Chines Salt Linghua, 40 bottles of 340 ml Clinic Plus brand shampoo, 300 kg polyester cloth new sample brand made in China, 528 kg Torque Rod Bushing, 5 tyres Aeolus brand made in China, 40 kg blankets made in China, 100 paris Iranian origion shoes Long Boots, gear box of Suzuki, 42 kg piston Master Cylinder etc total valuing of Rs. 16,031,113.
He argued that prosecution needs further investigation from arrested suspect for arrest of financiers, abettors and others including owner of impugned goods & vehicle, therefore, court may grant his physical remand, after the hearing, court sent him back to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.
Case was registered for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
