Customs Court grants post arrest bail in 60, 000 liter HSD oil smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs court granted after arrest bail to suspect namely Muhammad Nadeem son of Muhammad Essa against the surety of Rs 100,000, who was arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 60,000 liters HSD oil worth Rs7,680,000 approximately.
On 4 January, 2020, counsel for the above mentioned suspects appeared before the court and argued that his client is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case, who is ready to face trail and will make sure submit amount as surety, therefore, court may grant his post arrest bail till final judgment in this case.
After the hearing, court granted his bail against the surety of Rs 100,000 and directed him to make sure his presence on each and every date of hearing without fail or otherwise.
According to the prosecution, actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino oil tanker bearing registration number TAL-241and during the search, customs preventive officials recovered 60,000 liters high speed diesel from inside tanker.
Investigation officer further submits that after recovery of said goods, above mentioned driver was asked to produce any lawful documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, goods along with vehicles were seized and driver was also taken into custody.
As per first information report (FIR), case was registered complainant by Munir Ahmed Chandio, Intelligence officer, Directorate General of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969.
