KARACHI: The Customs Court directed counsel for the customs department and suspect to file their comments, reply and arguments in Bahria Town new Toyota Land Cruiser bullet proof vehicles smuggling case.
On 14 January 2020, counsel for both sides appeared before the court and sought time to prepare their arguments, after the hearing, court directed them to make sure filing their comments on next date of hearing.
According to the first information report registered in 2014, two unit brand new Toyota Land Curiser bullet proof, level B6 chassis no URJ202-4043673 (2013) & URJ202-4018923 of model 2014, were imported from UAE dated 17-03-2014 indicating consignee as Bahria Town (Pvt) Rawalpindi for clearance of the same was filed by a customs agent M/s Jumbo International duly support with the a NOC for retrofitting/ armoring of two vehicles into bullet proof vehicles level B6 issued by the ministry of interior, Islamabad.
Investigation officer further submitted that vehicles were accordingly released on the basis of documents so provided, however, after some time, it was established that accused persons Amir Malik of M/s Bahria Town, Ghufran Tahir, proprietor of M/s Jumbro International and their associates had imported and cleared two units of Toyota Land Curiser bulletproof vehicles on the basis of fake letter of ministry of interior, Islamabad and thus contravened the relevant provisions of the customs act, 1969.
Suspects Amir Malik and Ghufran Tahir are on bail however, Naeem Malik, former officer of Bahria Town had surrendered himself before the court and court had approved his after arrest bail after granting bail from SHC.
