FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized huge quantity of foreign origin smuggled cloth worth Rs4 million from a vehicle coming from Nowshera.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Muhammad Saleem received credible information that huge quantity of foreign origin Cloth will be smuggled via GT Road Sheikhupura to Faisalabad.
The Collector immediately constituted a team under the supervision of Deputy Collector Amjad Aman Leghari and also consisting of Superintendent Anjum Sheraz, Inspector Muhammad Habib Mayo, Muhammad waqas and other supporting staff. The team intercepted a car bearing registration no: LED-869-13 near Goverment Girls University Faisalabad Madina Town.
During checking of vehicle, the ASO team recovered huge quantity of non-customs paid cloth. The customs staff asked the possessor of smuggled goods to show any proof of legality of loaded goods but he failed to provide any proof against the smuggled goods. The Customs squad seized the cloth and brought the same to State Warehouse.
The sources said that illicit trade of cloth in the country is causing an estimate loss of Rs50 billion annually to the national exchequer.
