Customs Court rejects bail petition of accused in foreign currency smuggling case

MULTAN: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has rejected bail petition of suspect involved in the smuggling of foreign currency.

According to details, Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) team of Multan Customs has lodged case against accused Abdul Aleem Rashid before the Customs court after their arrest. Accused Abdul Aleem Rashid has filed post arrest bail petition in the Customs Court. Multan Customs Investigation and Prosecution submitted charge sheet and evidence against accused in the foreign currency smuggling case during proceedings. Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge rejected the bail application of accused after completion of argument from defense counsel.

It is pertinent to mention here, that Collectorate of Customs Preventive has carried out successful operation on direction of Collector Muhammad Saleem at Multan International Airport on the credible information from their source.

Alleged smuggler was trying to smuggle foreign currency of AED worth 117,355/Dirham-(Approximately equivalent to $31,000/-. Foreign currency was concealed in the luggage of passenger when he boarding to Sharjah from Multan International Airport through flight no PK-293. Passenger declared only 10,000 UAE dirhams foreign currency at the declaration counter but Customs staff recovered worth 117,355/dirham foreign currency from luggage on doubt of smuggling during vigilant examination.

Multan Customs Investigation and Prosecution lodged first information report against suspect for smuggling of currency after arrest and Customs Court has already sent accused to jail on judicial remand.
