Customs Court imposes fine on accused involved in smuggling of HSD

MULTAN: The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling imposed a fine of Rs400, 000/ on accused involved in smuggling of High Speed Diesel.

The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling declared accused Sardar Muhammad son of Muhammad Husnain as guilty in criminal case lodged by Customs Investigation & Prosecution branch and imposed a cash penalty of Rs400, 000/ in the registered case no.675/18. The special customs court has ordered the culprit to deposit the penalty cash of Rs400,000/ until the closure of the court and the fine was deposited by them.

It is pertinent to mention here that Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted suspicious oil tanker coming from Muzaffargarh near Sher Shah Bypass in their action and asked the said driver to produce import documents of said High Speed Diesel and its oil tanker.

Customs staff found that said oil tanker was filled with 40,000 litres of High Speed Diesel oil during their examination and they were asked to provide legal imports documents of said HSD but they failed to provide any import documents to Customs anti-smuggling squad for verification and customs teams seized the said oil tanker along with 40,000 litres of HSD.

Customs teams found that said HSD was coming from Baluchistan after smuggling through clandestine route in the country and it was non-duty paid Iranian origin.

Customs teams seized the said High Speed Diesel in their action after confirmation of smuggled one along with said oil tanker under section 157(2) of the Customs Act 1969 being used for smuggling of non-duty paid goods. The net value of the seized HSD was almost Rs.4 million.

Customs Investigation and Prosecution had lodged criminal case against owner of HSD for smuggling. Accused failed to prove his innocence in Special court of Customs and he confessed his crime in the court and requested leniency in High Speed Diesel smuggling case.

The Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Judge after considering submission of accused imposed him fine of Rs.400, 000/ for smuggling act High Speed Diesel.
