LAHORE: Collector Appeals Naureen Ahmad Tarar has cleared the backlog of pending cases in Customs Appeals Department as she decided over 300 cases including 150 of customs appeals and 150 of customs adjudication within three months from December 2019 to February 2020. She decided all the cases on merit either they were belonged to the department or the public.
Collector Appeals Naureen Ahmad Tarar who also has look-after additional charge of Customs Adjudication Lahore, expressed these views while talking exclusively with Customs Today. She said that these cases are decided after thoroughly hearing both the sides to do away with any chance of injustice with any of the contesting parties.
“Despite shortage of staff, I have a limited but thoroughly professional team working in close coordination with each other. They work very hard to end pendency of cases. They are encouraged and motivated by the high-ups on their outstanding performance,” she stated.
When asked whether it is necessary for a party to hire a counsel to appear before her to contest a case, she said that parties can appear by themselves and defend their cases and it is not mandatory to hire a consul.
After the cases are decided by the Collector Adjudication and Appeals, the cases can further be challenged at higher forums including customs tribunal, in a peaceful manner and without any kind of agitation, she informed.
Prior to her posting as Collector Appeals, Collector Naureen Tarar also served as Director Directorate of Customs Valuation Lahore. After assuming the additional charge of Collector Adjudication, she directed all relevant staff members to clear pending cases on priority basis. Earlier, she performed her duties as Director Directorate of Internal Audit, Islamabad. She also served as Additional Collector Customs Naureen Ahmad Tarar in Islamabad.
