Quetta Customs foils bid to smuggle betel nuts worth Rs60m

QUETTA: Collectorate of Customs team foiled a bid to smuggle crushed betel but (Arica) and seized 14 tons of the commodity along with vehicle being used to transport worth billions of rupees.

According to sources Chief Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary received credible information that some smugglers are planning to transport huge quantity of smuggled goods taking advantage of current corona virus situation and lock.

He immediately directed Collector Yaqoob Mako to take necessary measures to foil this attempt and constituted an anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Additional Collector Yasir Kalwar. The anti-smuggling squad established check points on various routes of the City and started checking of vehicles.

During checking, the anti-smuggling squad intercepted different vehicles and recovered 24 tons of crushed betel nut from two different vehicles valuing Rs 60 million was seized.

Sources told that customs anti-smuggling squad shifted the entire recovered betel nuts to state warehouse and after registering a case started further proceedings.
