World Bank plans to approve $500m for Pakistan

LAHORE: The World Bank is planning to approve 500 million dollars for Pakistan by next month.

According to details, the loan is aimed to strengthen civil registration and vital statistics like health and education.

Earlier, the World Bank worked to increase funding to $1 billion through repurposing the existing projects for Pakistan to respond to COVID-19.

Illango Patchamuthu, WB country director for Pakistan, had said that the funding would support health, employment, food and security sectors and small companies.

“Every crisis presents an opportunity to reform the social sector policies. The World Bank has already approved $200 million funding for Pakistan.

“Funding of $150 million will help in immediate purchase of medical equipment and supplies. About $50 million as relief through Ehsaas cash transfers will help poor families.”
