Customs Court approves charge sheet in smuggling of contraband goods

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved charge sheet against suspect namely Waqas Saleem S/o Saleem Hussain Memon, in a case of attempting to smuggle foreign origin mobile phones worth Rs 5,900,000.

On 23 April 2020, investigation officer of customs preventive submits charge sheet against above-mentioned suspect and informed the court that on an information, customs preventive intercepted above-mentioned suspect arrived from Dubai from Emirates Airlines Flight No EK-600 during passage through the green channel by IPS Green Channel.

He further submits that during the checking of his baggage, customs officials recovered 34 assorted I-Phone mobiles, 01 Samsung S20 Mobile phone valuing of Rs 5,90,000, 08 no Chivas Regal Brand Liquor valuing of Rs 12,000 and other contraband goods.

Investigation officer said that after the formalities, goods were seized and above-mentioned suspect was taken into customs custody and during the investigation, it was found that he was main accused and had tried to smuggle these goods into Pakistan.

After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and adjourned hearing for regular basis. According to the prosecution, case was registered complainant by Zahid Iqbal preventive officer Jinnah International Airport, Karachi for violation of under section 2(s) 157 (2) of customs act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of section 156 (i) ibid read with section 156 (2) of the customs act, 1969 further read with section 3 (1) of imports & export control act, 1950.
