Customs ASO recovers smuggled goods worth Rs225m near Sheikhupura

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized huge quantity of betel nuts, sweet supari, BOPP films, artificial flavor and  chemicals worth Rs225 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi received credible information that huge quantity of non-duty paid goods including betel nuts, sweet supari and BOPP films are dumped in a warehouse located at a Shekhupura. He immediately directed Additional Collector Saeed Wattoo to enhance vigilance in the jurisdiction.

Sources further told that anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Additional Collector Saeed Wattoo raided at the warehouse and recovered huge quantity of non-duty paid betel nuts, sweet supari, BOPP film etc. Sources told that market value of seized betel nuts is Rs225 million in international market.

Sources told that Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization registered a case against the owner of the warehouse and started investigations.

It is necessary to mention here that Collector Preventive Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
