ASO impounds Rs20.50m smuggled cigarettes

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling (ASO) Tuesday seized container of 543 cigarettes carton in a raid on information.

As per details Enforcement and Compliance Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi received secret information that smuggled cigarettes are being transported to Lahore from Quetta.

The collector upon information constituted a team under the supervision of Assistant Collector Ali Toqeer who intercepted a container bearing registration no Ju-5374 along with inspectors including Ashfaq Hamdani and the sepoys and seized the container, recovering the smuggled cigarettes worth Rs20.50 million.

The ASO team after examination has transported the cigarettes to the warehouse. An FIR has been lodged and further investigation is under way.

It is necessary to mention here that Collector Basit Maqsood Abbasi directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He further directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
