Multan Customs seizes betel nuts worth Rs28m near Lodhran

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) seized consignment of betel nuts worth Rs28 million during their action.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Syed Ali Raza Gardezi received credible information that bulk quantity of contraband smuggled goods will be transported from Lodhran to Multan.

Additional Collector formed special team on the basis of credible information and constituted anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Inspector Abdul Samad and others to take action against smuggled goods.

Customs anti-smuggling squad enhanced the patrolling on various suspected routes to thwart attempt of smuggling. Multan Customs intercepted suspected trucks near Basti Malook area which were loaded with huge quantity of crushed betel nuts during examination. The recovered betel nuts were packed in the different bags.

Smugglers were used to supply these smuggled betel nuts to different retailers of South Punjab especially in Multan. Multan Customs also called local police at the spot to avoid any clash during action.

Customs teams recovered almost 300 bags of betel nuts and their net weight was almost 9000 Kilograms. Anti-Smuggling team’s shifted said betel nuts in state ware house Customs after their action. Deputy Collector Amjad Aman supervised the whole operation.

The values of seized goods were almost Rs.28 million along with vehicle. Customs teams started investigation against recovered betel nuts for further action and further investigations against owner of betel nuts are still under process for legal action.
