Multan Customs shows outstanding performance by seizing NDP goods worth Rs380.9m amid lockdown: Collector Muneeza Majeed

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) is utilizing all available resources to eradicate smuggling in the jurisdiction and due to their efforts seized record number of goods worth Rs.380.9 million during May amid lock down of COVID-19.

Collector Muneeza Majeed told Customs Today that Anti-Smuggling Organization was re-organized after assuming the charge of Multan Customs Collectorate Enforcement & Compliance and staffs were deployed strategically to foil the different attempts of smuggling. Special emphasis was given on the revamping of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) to curb menace of smuggling.

Multan Customs has enhanced mutual cooperation with the law enforcement agencies and has taken effective actions to curb smuggling in the territory and has seized various goods of worth Rs380 million. I sent clear message to smugglers through aggressive crackdown after assuming charge of Collector at Multan Customs in May and Anti-Smuggling Organization carried out 36 operations against smugglers in the months of May and accomplished success by restraining them after the deployment of staff at adopted routes.

Multan Customs Anti-Smuggling impounded 8 luxurious vehicles including Mercedes Benz, Toyota Land Cruiser jeep worth Rs40 million during May. Anti-Smuggling Organization has also seized huge quantity of smuggled High-Speed Diesel, foreign Origin tyres, Skimmed milk powder, cigarettes, auto parts.

he foreign origin cloth of worth Rs3.49 million has been seized under the Customs Act 1969. Customs teams captured 200,000 litres of High-Speed Diesel near Sadiqabad and Mianwali region in various actions. Customs teams have also intercepted 4500kg skimmed milk powder, 12500 kg of China salt from Sadiqabad region. Customs recovered 220 LED TV from Faisalabad, 16300 kilograms of red pepper seeds, 20200 kilograms of almonds 10,000 from Mianwali.

She expressed that Multan Customs is the major revenue generating Collectorate of Central Region and Customs Collectorate Multan has its significant importance for business community of South Punjab due to its geographical location. Multan Customs has promoted legal imports and legitimate trade through their intensive anti-smuggling campaigns in the region.

Multan Customs Collectorate took stern action against smugglers in the jurisdiction according to the anti-trafficking vision of the Prime Minister Imran Khan and utilized all the resources to eradicate smuggling which is also adversely affecting the national economy.
