Customs ASO submits final charge sheet of tobacco smuggling case

KARACHI: Investigation officer of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization N.M.W. Wharf Karachi submitted final charge sheet against suspects namely Mirza Aurangzaib Baig Younus Baig and Muhammad Jawad son of Chand Hussain who were involved in a case of attempting to smuggled non-duty paid tobacco worth Rs 6,600,000.

On 26 June 2020, investigation officer submitted charge sheet and informed the court that information was received that smuggled foreign origin tobacco is dumped in a godown situated at Gulshan-e-Shamim, Block 8 House No R/197 F.B Area Karachi and likely to be removed from that premises shortly and on pursuant to the said information a customs team was constituted to foil the attempt on urgent basis, who reached there but no one came near godown in presence of customs team and during the search, customs team found 120 PP bags tobacco each containing 22 kg total 2640 kilograms worth Rs6,600,000 and after the formalities, goods were seized by the customs officials.

After the hearing, court approved final charge sheet and adjourned the case for regular hearing for next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against them for violation of under section 2(3, 7) 2(9), 2(14) (a) 3,6,7,8 (1) (a) & (d) 8 A ,22(1) and 73 of the sales tax act, 1990 punishable under section 33 (3) (5) (8) (11c) (13) (16) (18) ibid.
