Customs Court approves after arrest bail of accused in HSD oil smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court granted after arrest bail against suspects namely Naqeebullah son of Ubaidullah and Muhammad Shahid son of Dost Muhammad who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid high speed diesel.

On 1 July 2020, above mentioned suspects and their counsel appeared before the court and filed after arrest bail applications and after the arguments, court granted their after arrest bail against the surety of Rs100,000 and directed them to submit their respective amount and appear before the court on next date of hearing.

Earlier, investigation officer of customs preventive had produced them before the court and informed that on actionable information, customs officials intercepted a Hino truck bearing registration number SEB-780 (Lesbela) and during the search, recovered 35000 liters high speed diesel from hidden tank fabricated in the floor and on both sides of the said truck.

He further had informed the court that both the occupants drivers were asked to explain the reasons for the concealment of diesel oil and they were asked to provide lawful documents, however, they failed to provide any lawful documents, therefore, they are taken into customs custody and goods along with vehicles were seized.

He said that prosecution needs further investigation from them, therefore, court may send them back to customs department, after the hearing, court had approved their physical remand and directed investigation officer to produce them before the court on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution case was registered against them for violation under section 2(s) 32, 121, 128 & 178 of the customs act, 1969 punishable under clauses 8, 14, 63, 64, 89, 90 of section 156(i) ibid and other related laws.
