Customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs 200m in Multan

LAHORE: The Customs Intelligence and Investigations (I&I) Multan have seized smuggled goods worth around Rs 200 million during first nine months of the current year.

According to the central region data, Customs (I&I) Multan range seized smuggled goods worth Rs 125.66 million from Multan including cars, tyres, medicines, cigarettes, plastic granules, welding rods, ball bearings, HS diesel, cloth, power spray machines, blankets, Iranian carpets, generators, carbon steel rods, mats and other items from January 1 to September 30.

Customs Multan team deputed at DG Khan checkpost seized smuggled goods including cars worth Rs 41.5 million while customs team at Sadiqabad seized smuggled goods worth Rs 38.3 million.

These items were seized during checking only on one route, customs officials said, adding that smugglers utilise many routes to flood the market with a number of products without paying taxes in the country. They added that all-out efforts were being made to plug the entry of smuggled items into customs Multan area.
