MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has recovered 180,000 liters of smuggled High-Speed Diesel (HSD) worth Rs30 million near Basti Malook warehouse.
Sources told Customs Today that after assuming the charge Additional Director Saeed Ahmad Wattoo directed field intelligence unit to take strict action against smuggled goods and adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. Anyone who found involved in any sort of smuggling should be dealt with iron hands.
Additional Director Saeed Ahmad Wattoo received credible that smuggled / non-duty paid Iranian origin HSD were dumped in the private warehouse near Basti Malook for its further disposal and illegal sale.
The Customs I&I staff decided to raid the said warehouse and got search warrant of warehouse from local magistrate and raided with the help of local Police station in order to avoid any interference during action.
Upon cursory checking of warehouse, Customs field Intelligence staff o recovered almost 180,000 litres of High-Speed Diesel.
During examination of the warehouse Customs Intelligence found several machines and equipment for the filling and storage of dumped High Speed Diesel. Customs Intelligence found that several oil tankers were also placed in the warehouse for the transfer of non-duty paid High Speed Diesel.
Field Intelligence Unit found that smugglers were supplying non-customs paid High Speed Diesel to South Punjab retailers.
Customs Intelligence recovered documents and other items during their action. Said Warehouse was empty and only security guard was doing its duties outside warehouse and no one was there at the spot. Customs Intelligence started further probing for detecting owner of the warehouse.
During examination of the warehouse Customs Intelligence seized almost 180,000 High Speed Diesel under Customs act 1969 and started legal action against owner.
