Customs court approves charge sheet in electronics goods smuggling case

KARACHI: The Customs Court approved interim charge sheet against suspects namely Muhammad Atiq son of Muhammad Shafiq, Muhammad Arif son of Riaz Ahmed, who were nominated in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid contraband goods worth Rs8,886,070.

On 9 September  2020, investigation officer appeared before the court and submitted charge sheet, according to the charge sheet, suspects were coming from Dubai via PIA and they were directed to get their baggage scanned and during the scanning, staff operating the scanning machine observed high end electronic goods in the baggage of both passengers.

He further informed the court that after the search, customs officials found 02 data logic scanner, 02 smart watch Huawei, 04 AMAZFIT smart watch, 01 Ipad Pro (512GB), 03 Airpods Pro, 35 Samsung V-NAND SSD, 11 Mi Smart brands, 10 Love Chopard perfume, 20 Chopard Oud MALAKI 80ml, 02 laptop HP Pavilion Gaming, 03 mobile phone Iphone XI Pro Max, 06 Wrist Watches Chinese origin, 02 Galaxy Watch Samsung, 06 Quickscan, 42 Samsung V-NAND SSD 860ml, 03 mobile phone One Plus, 04 I-Phone XS Max, 07 mobile phone empty boxes and others goods worth Rs8,886,070.

As per challan, during the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that air passage tickets of both suspect and one Muhammad Shaukat were booked by one Arsalan Qurashi from M/s Venus Travels.

After the hearing, court approved charge sheet and fixed case for regular hearing.
