Customs Enforcement submits another FIR against owners of smuggled cloth

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) submitted another first information report (FIR) for recovery of 18,000 yards foreign origin polyester cloth and 3070 yards foreign origin polyester lose cloth worth Rs4,110,000.

On 1 Oct 2020, investigation officer submitted first information report (FIR) before the court and informed that an actionable information was received to the effect that considerable quantity of smuggled/ non-duty paid foreign origin cloth has been secreted in a godown situated at Lea Market, Karachi and would likely to be moved from that premises shortly.

He further submitted that on that information, customs officials raided at said premises and recovered 360 rolls of foreign origin polyester cloth each weighing 6.5 kg, 50 yards, total 2340 yards and 18,000 yards worth Rs3,510,000 and 10 bundles containing foreign origin polyester lose cloth, each bundle weighing 40 kg, 307 yards total 400 kg and 3070 yard worth Rs600,000.

He further submitted that no one came forward to claim the ownership of impugned foreign origin cloth, neither any response nor document to substantiate the lawful import/ procurement/ purchase and storage of foreign origin impugned fabric was produced as yet.

Investigation officer stated that investigations are underway and prosecution team is trying its best for arrest of owners/ financers/ abettors and associates, who are involved in this case.

After the hearing, court taken FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigation and submit progress report on next date of hearing.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 168 of the customs act, 1969 in violation of section 2 (s) of customs act, 1969 punishable under section 156(1), (89), read with 156 (2) ibid further read with section 3(1) of import and export (control) act, 1950.
