South Punjab to become biggest trade hub under CPEC project: Shah Mehmud Qureshi

MULTAN: South Punjab is heading towards becoming biggest trade centre of our country very soon under CPEC project which is really a game-changer and there would be unexpected opportunities of employment and no one would be jobless, said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi while talking with Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi on becoming president of Dera Ghazi Khan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DGKCCI).

He said that the present government endeavoring sincerely for the betterment of people of all classes and I am optimistic that people would soon get relief surely.

Foreign Minister said that the PTI government was executing a number of schemes of health, education, and job-oriented industries. He said that joblessness was reducing gradually. Now we are exploring new avenues for industrialization. He said Pakistan would participate in the virtual meeting on the FATF to be held in Paris. He hoped that Pakistan would be on the white list of the FATF soon. He said America and some other countries will support Pakistan on FATF.

The foreign minister said the national institutions are functioning within their domain for welfare of the country, adding: “We are proud of our institutions and their performance. We are proud of Pakistan’s armed forces.” Qureshi said the government highlighted the Kashmir issue at international forums and successfully countered the Indian propaganda. “The world now knows Kashmiris need their right to self-determination,” he added. The United States is appreciating Pakistan’s role in securing peace in Afghanistan. He urged the United Nations to play its role in peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi suggested that Government should take effective and far-reaching measures to save the agriculture sector which can compensate those who succumbed to pandemic Covid-19.

He said that well germinated, heat & disease-resistant hybrid seed and hi-value crops can bring a revolution in Pakistan’s economy.

He stressed the need for improving the quality of crops, particularly cotton. We must produce long-staple cotton in different colors to earn maximum foreign exchange. He said that there was a dire need for a fair return of farmers’ produce.

Jalaluddin Roomi also discussed the on-going health projects in South Punjab and said that it is imperative to complete these schemes as early as possible to facilitate the people. He told him that philanthropists of this region were agreeing to join hands with the Government in public health projects. Roomi said, “We had executed a large number of welfare schemes in Nishtar Hospital to facilitate the patients admitted in the hospital. Now we are working on different schemes to expand our circle in the south Punjab.

Jalaluddin Roomi emphasized on opening more educational institutions in remote and neglected areas of South Punjab to eradicate the backwardness and unemployment.

Upon this, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi recognized and eulogized the services of Khawaja Muhammad Masud and his family for industrialization in this region and said that Mehmood group of industries had played a keep role in minimizing the joblessness besides serving the humanity and paying taxes of billions of rupees to Government fairly. He appreciated the proposals of Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi such as tax-free zone, Special industrial zone, more school and health institutions etc.
