Embezzlement of funds: NAB Sukkur widens probe against officers, officials of machinery maintenance division

SUKKUR: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated a case against officers / officials of Machinery Maintenance Division Khairpur and Shikarpur, contractors and others on the allegations of misuse of authority and misappropriation / embezzlement of funds.

NAB has upgraded the investigation into reference with the approval of the competent authority on the allegations of misuse of authority & misappropriation of funds of 07x annual development schemes to the tune of Rs311,566,848/- against Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani ex–MNA Jacobabad, 11x officers/officials of Machinery Maintenance Division Khairpur @ Shikarpur and 02x contractors namely Imran Ali & Abdul Razzak. Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani is beneficiary of approximately Rs. 50 million from both contractors namely Imran Ali & Abdul Razzak Behrani who are main accused in the reference.

In subject case, 06x accused persons are already arrested in the case. The reference will be filed in respected Accountability Court Sukkur in due course of time as per law.

It is necessary to mention here that on 18.1.2020 NAB Sukkur has arrested two executive engineers namely Allah Dita Panhiyar and Tufail Ahmed of Machinery and Maintenance department Khairpur and Shikarpur.

As per investigation carried out by NAB Sukkur, both the accused paid amount to contractor without execution of work at site causing loss to national exchequer to the tune of Rs 149 million.

Further investigation revealed that the accused in connivance with Iqbal Ahmed Pathan released payments against fake measurements recorded in measurement books.
