KARACHI: The Customs Court directed investigation officer of customs preventive to arrest the owner, financier, abettors, associates and others and produce them before the court, who are involved in smuggling of SWP best quality product of Mayanmar (Burma) and other contraband goods totaling Rs11,000,000.
On 22 December 2020, investigation officer submitted first information report (FIR) and argued that on an actionable information, customs officials raided at godown situated at Imam Uddin Road, Block B, Sher Shah Karachi and recovered 400 pp bags each weighing 25 kg, bearing marks as SWP best quality product of Mayanmar Burma, further containing another pp bags having 08 slabs of Indian Origin Cutch Katha, each slab packed in transparent polythene bag, further wrapped with Indian origin new paper total 10,000 kg valuing Rs11,000,000.
He further informed the court that after completion of the legal formalities as envisages under section 163 of the customs act, 1969, in presence of the mushers namely Preventive Officer Touseef Ahmed and Preventive officer Rana Azeem Sarwar and seized the same.
Investigation officer stated that unknown accused persons has committed the violation of under section 168 of the customs act, 1969 in violation of section 2 (s) of the customs act, 1969 punishable under section 156 (1) (89) read with 156 (2) ibid, further read with section 3(1) of import and export (control) act 1950, therefore, notice under section 171 of the customs act 1969 has been served to the claimant owner and also displayed on notice board at ASO/HQ NMB Wharf, Karachi and customs house, Karachi.
He said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused persons involved in the crime, after the hearing, court took FIR into court record and directed investigation officer to arrest them and produce before the court.
