MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization recovered huge quantity of Indian origin garlic worth Rs6.94 million during their action.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Muneeza Majeed received credible information that huge quantity of garlic will be transported through Multan Region.
Additional Collector Syed Ali Abbas Gardezi formed special team of Anti-Smuggling Organization comprising of Inspector Abdul Samad, Inspector Umair Ahmad to foil their attempt of smuggling.
Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization Multan squad started patrolling of the suspected routes and enhanced exit and entrance point to intercept them. Customs anti-smuggling squad seized a suspected truck loaded with Indian origin garlic near Sher Shah Check post during examination of goods. The truck was loaded with foreign brands of Indian origin garlic.
Anti-smuggling Squad Multan team asked driver to provide legal documents of the foreign origin garlic. Customs teams recovered almost 1200 bags of garlic during their examination. The net quantity of ginger was almost 21 tons. Customs team asked driver to provide legal documents of said ginger, but they failed to provide any documents. Customs Anti-Smuggling teams decided to seize ginger after thorough examination.
The recovered ginger was Indian origin and said were smuggled through Afghanistan from secrets routes in the country and they were trying to transport ginger in the local markets of South Punjab. The net worth of the seized skimmed milk was almost Rs.6.94 million. Anti-Smuggling squad shifted said ginger in the state ware house and vehicle under customs act 1969.
Further investigations were still under process. Anti-Smuggling Organization has also arrested two persons in an action on Monday and further legal action was under process.
