LAHORE: President Punjab Dyes and Chemicals Merchants Association (Lahore Chapter) and former senior vice president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khawaja Khawar Rashid has demanded the government to allow all markets to be open 24 hours a day till Eid.

Khawaja Khawar Rashid said that 24/7 timing of markets till Eid will be resulted in a reduction in panic and rush while traders will also be prevented from huge financial loss.

He said that the government has allowed markets to be opened for a limited time period due to which traders are worried while customers are also going for shopping in a chaos. In this situation, it would be almost impossible to control spread of coronavirus.

Khawaja Khawar Rashid said allowing round-the-clock market opening will be a wise decision as the traders were the main victim of the coronavirus pandemic. He stressed that it is the business community that can mitigate the shock to the national economy due to coronavirus, therefore, the government should support it.

He said that 24/7 opening of markets will ensure no rush in the markets as the people will be enabled to do shopping at any time which will help prevent the spread of coronavirus. He said that new working hours can be decided after Eid in consultation with the stakeholder.
