Power tariff likely to decrease by up to 12 paisa per unit

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to slash power tariff by up to 12 paisa per unit under the head of monthly fuel price adjustment (FPA) for the month of May 2021.

In this regard, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), in an application, has sought NEPRA’s approval for 12 paisa per unit decrease in the electricity tariff on account of FPA.

According to the CPPA, in the context of FPA for the month of May, the price of electricity is likely to be reduced by 12 paisa per unit.

The regulatory body will hold a hearing on June 29 on the petition to reduce electricity prices. 13 billion units of electricity were generated in May.

According to the CPPA, the reference fuel cost in May was Rs 5.93 per unit, power generation cost was Rs 5.70 per unit, in May 26.64 per cent electricity was generated from water, 20.13 per cent from coal and from expensive furnace oil. 5.93 per cent electricity was generated, 11.18 per cent from domestic gas, 21.74 per cent from imported LNG, 9.70 per cent from nuclear sources.
