Customs Court approves progress report against M/s ZR Corporation in tax evasion scam

KARACHI: The investigation officer of Customs Appraisement East submitted a progress report against the owner of M/s ZR Corporation and others, who were nominated in a case of illegal removal of hot rolled steel sheets in coils of prime quality and caused heavy losses to the national exchequer.

On 29 June 2021, investigation officer of Customs Appraisement East submitted a progress report and informed the court that on an actionable information, a team of customs department visited at SITE Area Karachi premises of the warehouse namely M/s General Services and found Nadeem (record keeper) of the warehouse and Amin Zikar the manager of the warehouse was available in the office.

He further informed the court that during the raid, both suspects failed to present/ show the goods and they categorically confirmed that the goods weighing 2698155 kg warehouse against four goods declarations are not available in the warehouse nor could they show the corresponding ex-bond GDs thereof, meaning thereby the iron steel coils/ sheets weighing 2698155 kg have been removed from the warehouse illegal without payment of leviable customs duties & others taxes and a first information report (FIR) lodged accordingly.

After the hearing, the court took the progress report and adjourned the case for regular hearing. Court also directed the investigation officer for further inquiry and appearance for the next date of hearing.
