Faisalabad Customs seizes smuggled tamarind near Jhang Road

FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement & Compliance (E&C) seized foreign origin tamarind worth Rs8.4 million near Jhang Road, Faisalabad.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Ghulam Nabi Kamboh received secret information regarding some smuggling attempts. He formed a customs anti-smuggling squad comprising Inspector Muhammad Ali, Inspector Ramzan, Muhammad Saleem Khan, Muhammad Tahir Bubal and others to thwart any attempt of smuggling.

Customs snti-smuggling squad Faisalabad started patrolling on the suspected routes to foil any attempt of smuggling. Customs staff intercepted Hino truck bearing registration no. TKF-313 near Jhang Road Faisalabad.  Anti-smuggling squad recovered huge quantity of smuggled tamarind. Anti-smuggling squad found that tamarind was smuggled from Iran. The net weight of recovered tamarind was almost 21000 kilograms and its value was almost Rs8.4 million.

Customs Anti-smuggling team asked driver to produce legal documents regarding the possession of the tamarind but he failed to provide any relevant document. The Customs team seized the non-duty paid tamarind along with vehicle. Anti-smuggling squad has started action against the smuggler of tamarind for proceeding legal action against him. Further action against smuggled tamarind was still under way.
