KARACHI: The Customs Court directed the investigation officer of Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) to arrest the owners/ financers/ associates and others, who were involved in smuggling of Indian origin Rashal brand un-dyed/ unbleached polyester grey cloth etc.
On 20 August 2021, during the hearing, investigation officer informed the court that credible information was received to the effect that huge quantity of smuggled/ non-duty paid foreign origin grey fabric has been secreted in godown situated at plot no B-40 SG, near Akber Godown, SITE Karachi, therefore, legal formalities to the effect of search warrant under section 162 of the customs act, 1969 were fulfilled and the learned Civil Judge & Judicial Magistrate, Karachi West graciously granted the search warrant thereby authorized to conduct the search of above said premises.
He further informed the court that during the raid, customs officials found 600 thans of Indian origin Rashal brand un-dyed/ unbleached polyester grey cloth total weighing 6,000 kg valuing Rs3,720,000. 5660 nos of thans of foreign origin, un-dyed/ unbleached polyester grey cloth total weighing 33,960 kg valuing of Rs21,055,200.
He added that after the formalities, goods were seized and a FIR was lodged against un-identify accused persons for under section 2 (s) of the customs act, 1969 read with sections 156 (2), 187 & 187 ibid further read with section 3(i) of the imports & exports (control) act, 1959 punitive action for which is provided under clause (89) of section 156 (i) of the customs act, 1969.
