Customs I&I foils bid to smuggle foreign origin cloth worth Rs18.5m

LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) team has foiled an attempt to smuggle 6700 kilograms of foreign origin cloth worth Rs18.5 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Saima Aftab received credible information that huge quantity foreign origin cloth will be smuggled. She immediately constituted Customs team under the supervision of Superintendent Khalid Khan which includes Intelligence Officer Allah Ditta and Intelligence Officer Gulzar Bhatti.

Sources said that Customs Intelligence and Investigation team intercepted a vehicle which was coming from Multan near Khiara Motorway Interchange Nankana Sahib. The driver of the vehicle identified as Shoukat Ali. The customs team asked the driver to produce any relevant legal documents regarding transportation of cloth. The driver failed to produce any legal documents. Customs team seized the vehicle and cloth and after registering a case of smuggling started further investiations.

It is necessary to mention here that Director Saima Aftab directed all relevant customs squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. She directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law.
