Customs Court extends physical remand of brother/sister in 61,600 Euros smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs court extended physical remand of brother & sister namely Obaid Siddiqui son of Muhammad Afzal and Aqsa Siddiqa daughter of Muhammad Afzal and again sent them to customs department, who were arrested for smuggling of 61600 Euros equivalent to US$ 686775 approximately.

On 8 February 2022 during the hearing, investigation officer -re-produced them before the court and informed the court that above mentioned accused were bound for Dubai by Emirates Airline Flight No EK-605 and they have three brown color and one trolly bag.

He further informed the court that due to suspicious, they were brought for examination and during joint examination, customs officials found 61, 600 Euros equivalent to US$ 686775 appox and have committed an offence which falls under the ambit of section 2(s), 16 of the customs act, 1969, punishable under sub clauses iii (e) of clause (8) & sub clause (f) of section (70) of section 156 (i) ibid read with notification of state bank of Pakistan.

He added that therefore, both accused were arrested and investigation is in progress, prosecution needs their physical remand for further investigation, therefore, court may send them back to customs department.

After the hearing, court granted his request and sent them back to customs luck-up for further physical remand and directed investigation officer produce them for next date of hearing along with progress report.
