MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has recovered huge quantity of smuggled goods which was dumped in a godown located in Industrial Estate Area. The net worth of the seized goods (inclusive of duty and taxes and the vehicles) is, approximately, Rs134 million.
Sources said that on the directives of Collector Imran Ahmad Chaudhary, Additional Collector Shafiqur Rehman and Deputy Collector Rehan Akram have enhanced monitoring and strengthened the intelligence network to thwart any attempt of moving smuggled goods.
An operation was conducted successfully with the assistance of the Police after the godown was raided. As no documents showing import of the recovered goods were provided, therefore, the goods along with two vehicles as loaded with the smuggled goods were taken into custody by the Customs ASO staff after completing all the legal formalities.
The Collectorate, under the supervision of Imran Ahmad Chaudhary – Collector, has, during the period from August 2021 to-date, seizing smuggled goods worth Rs.2.5 billion which is 67% higher than the corresponding period of the previous fiscal-year.
Apart from the above, strenuous efforts have been made to enhance revenue collection by conducting auctions of the long pending lots by collecting Rs.307.83 million from sale proceed of vehicles/miscellaneous goods.
These efforts have yielded positive results and revenue has increased by 142% in comparison of last year. The policy of zero-tolerance against smuggling of goods continues unabated.
