Appraisement East allows clearance of wood products consignments whose Bill of Lading issued before 16.6.2022

KARACHI: In view of the foregoing and considering the hardships being faced by the importers of wood, Collectorate of Customs Appraisement East Collector Fayyaz Rasool Maken has directed to release all such consignments whose Master Bills of Lading are issued on or before 16.6.2022 on time basis.

According to the details, a meeting was held which was presided over by Collector Rayaz Rasool Maken also attended by Dr. Allah Ditta, Director-General, Plant Protection Department, Mushtaq Ali Shahani, Additional Collector, Sardar Amin Farooqui, Assistant Collector, Muhammad Sarjil Golpani, President Karachi Timber Merchant Group, Sabir Bangash, Vice President Karachi Timber Merchant Group, Mushtaq Wali Muhammad, Senior Member, Karachi Timber Merchant Group, Muzammil Ahmed, former, MC Member, Karachi Timber Member Group, Minhas Jafrani, Deputy Import Convener, Karachi Timber Merchant Group.

During the meeting the representative of M/s Karachi Merchants Group made the submissions for rlease of consignments of wood which are lying pending clearance at the time of Karachi Port and Port Qasim and incurring heavy demurrages;

  1. They mentioned that currently 224 containers have arrived at the Karachi ports and Port Qasim, awaiting clearance’
  2. They stated that, since Plant Protection Department issued guidelines for issuance of Import Permit and Release Order on 17.7.3033; therefore, the said date should be taken as the reference point/ cut off date for release of their pending consignments;
  3. They finally requested that all their consignments, wherein Master of Bills of Lading are issued by or before 17.8.2022 should be released.
