Pakistan’s regional exports increase 18.3pc in 11MFY22: SBP

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s exports to regional countries witnessed an increase of 18.26 percent in the first eleven months of fiscal year (2021-22), as compared to the corresponding period of last year (11MFY21).

The country’s exports to seven regional countries including Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, and the Maldives total $4172.741 million, which is 14.22 percent of Pakistan’s overall exports of $29333.048 million during July-May (2021-22), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported.

According to the details, exports to China posted a growth of 38.77 percent to $2543.24 million in 11MFY22 from $1832.649 million during last year while exports to Bangladesh also increased by 42 percent to $783.469 million from $551.712 million.

The country’s export to Afghanistan, however, dropped by 44.82 percent to $494.080 million during the period under review from $895.399 million whereas exports to India also dipped by 43.53 percent to $1.289 million from $2.283.

Similarly, exports to Sri Lanka rose by 43.34 percent to $338.986 million from $236.486 million in the previous year whereas exports to Nepal also increased by 26.07 percent to $5.420 million from $4.299 million, in addition exports to Maldives increased by 12.52 percent to $6.261 million from $5.564 million, it added.

On the other hand, the imports from seven regional countries were recorded at $16166 million during the period under review as compared to $11938.173 million during last year, showing increase of 34.41 percent.

The imports from China during 11MFY22 were recorded at $15690.135 million against the $11455.922 million during 11MFY21, showing an increase of 36.96 percent during the period.

Among other countries, imports from India worth $169.432 million against the imports of $166.831 million, increase of 1.55 percent while imports from Afghanistan decreased by 11.65 percent from $163.728 million to $144.648 million.

Meanwhile, imports from Sri Lanka witnessed 1.85 percent decrease from $77.459 million to $76.023 million whereas Pakistan Imports from Bangladesh recorded at $83.201 million from $73.052 million during last year.

The imports from Nepal into the country witnessed increase of 13.59 percent from $1.089 million to $1.237million, it said.
