Multan Customs seizes smuggled gutka worth Rs17.6m near Sakhi Sarwar

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Anti-Smuggling Organization has seized huge quantity of smuggled Indian Gutka worth Rs17.6 million near Sakhi Sarwar region.

According to details, Collector Enforcement Tahir Ali received secret information from the source that huge quantity of contraband items will be transported from Baluchistan to Punjab through Sakhi Sarwar route. Multan Customs Collector formed special team under the supervision of Assistant Collector Naeem Raza to thwart any smuggling attempt.

Assistant Collector Naeem Raza along with special anti-smuggling squad acted on the said information and his Anti-smuggling team tightened the monitoring of the vehicles to curb smuggling. Multan Customs Anti-smuggling squad enhanced monitoring of the suspected routes to foil any smuggling attempt. 

Multan Customs anti-smuggling squad intercepted a suspected vehicle loaded with Indian Origin Gutka near Sakhi Sarwar and asked the driver to present import documents of the loaded goods. During examination anti-smuggling squad found huge 235 bags of contraband Gutka from the vehicle. Customs squad found that Gutka was concealed in the wooden furniture and they were trying to transport goods in the vehicle. Multan Custom team was also assisted by Baluchistan Military Police (BMP) during action.

The value of the seized contraband goods and vehicle was about Rs.32 million including duty and taxes. Multan Customs brought the seized contraband items to State ware House of Multan Customs. Further investigations were still under way.
