Businessmen urges govt to check smuggling and hoarding of dollars

LAHORE: The business community Thursday urged the government to check the smuggling and hoarding of dollars with iron hand to pave the way for ease of doing business comfortably.

Talking to a delegation of industrialists and traders led by Kashif Ali, Coordinator to Federal Tax Ombudsman Meher Kashif Younis lamented that shortage of dollars in market manipulated by unscrupulous elements creating unnecessary chaos harmful to business activities must be arrested on top priority and such disgusting elements ought be taken to task.

He alleged that dollars is being smuggled unchecked to neighbouring country with ulterior motives by anti-state elements to achieve the nefarious design. He said efforts to curb the tendency of smuggling dollars be beefed at all boardering areas and land routes including air and dollars recovered be forfeited to national kitty.

Meher Kashif said that situation is turning hostile due to non-availability of dollars in markets and increase in cost of imported raw materials and weaker demand has painted bleak pictures of economy. He said most of the steel factories and other major industrial outlets production has come to standstill  which needs to be reinforced to put them on track to economic development. He said it’s has now becoming difficult to run factories in given circumstances and government must take prudent economic policies to enliven the business activities.
