Pakistan Railways to revive freight train service from Multan to Karachi

MULTAN: Pakistan Railways to revive its freight train service from Multan to Karachi to support trade and commerce.

According to the details, the Divisional Superintendent of Peshawar, Muhammad Nasir Khalily, requested the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) to provide details on the potential sectors that could benefit from the fast-tracked cargo train service.

The move was discussed at a meeting with MCCI President Muhammad Rashid Iqbal and other prominent members of the chamber.

He emphasized the importance of railways as a speedy mode of transportation for trade and exports, while Nasir acknowledged that Multan and Karachi were lagging in freight compared to other cities. The official promised to resolve any issues faced by the business community of South Punjab and stressed the need to utilize railways transportation to improve exports and stabilize the economy.

MCCI President Rashid welcomed the plan to resume the cargo train service from Multan and offered to provide the details needed for a swift restart. He also pointed out that resuming the service could bring significant revenue to the Pakistan Railways and Customs. The senior official approved said proposal to have MCCI represented on the Railways Advisory Committee.
