Govt promotes star performers Mukkaram Jah Ansari & Faiz Ahmad from BS-21 to BS-22

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired the High Powered Selection Board (HPB) meeting which approved promotions of two star performing officers of Pakistan Customs Service from BS-21 into BS-22.

According to the details, Federal Board of Revenue, Member Customs Operations Federal Board of Revenue Mukkaram Jah Ansari and Director-General Intelligence and Investigation Faiz Ahmad Chadhar granted promotion from BS-21 to BS-22.

Mukarram Jah Ansari is a very competent, honest and hard-working officer of Pakistan Customs Service. During his career he has served all over the country in Pakistan Customs including Director General Customs Valuation, Director General (Reforms & Automation), Chief Customs (Tariff & Trade), Collector Port Qasim, Collector Customs Preventive Lahore and Director Customs Intelligence.

He has also actively contributed to Customs Administrative Reforms and Automation. He has extensive operational and management experience in the areas of trade facilitation, enforcement and compliance management in Customs and Indirect Taxes.

During 2020-22, he served in the Board of Investment and spearheaded multiple initiatives relating to Business Climate Improvement including “Ease of Doing Business” and “Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative”.

While Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Faiz Ahmad Chadhar has tightened the noose around smugglers and accelerated anti-smuggling operations across Pakistan to eradicate this menace from the country. Earlier, on his credible information,  Customs Intelligence and Investigation team thwarted an attempt to smuggle 200 kilograms of charas worth Rs220 million.

It is pertinent to mention here that on January 28, 2022 under the guidance of Faiz Ahmed Chadhar, Director General Intelligence & Investigation had seized smuggled goods worth over Rs635 million, which is the highest value seizure in recent history.

DG I&I Faiz Ahmad directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling. He directed that anyone who found involved in smuggling should be dealt as per law

He has served at various strategic and important positions across Pakistan like Chief Collector, Enforcement and Chief Collector, Appraisement and have a plethora of achievements to his name. While serving as Chief Collector, Enforcement Central region, due to Covid-19, lots of importers were trying to ‘smuggle’ face masks like N95, KN95 to get benefit of the crisis situation but Faiz Ahmad gave a huge dent to these efforts in Central Region and airports of Punjab. Due to his strict orders, Customs team foiled major smuggling attempts in Punjab. Customs staff is fully active and working with full commitment under daring leadership of Mr Faiz Ahmad.

Recently, FBR had transferred DG I&I Faiz Ahmed to IPR. His transfer was widely criticized because Faiz Ahmed is a very competent officer. He has been efficiently leading the campaign against smugglers. Since the restrictions were imposed on imports and LCs, there is a heavy tendency to smuggle goods but due to increased and dauntless efforts of Faiz Ahmad, Customs Intelligence and Investigation are successful to curb the smuggling menace.
