KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has responded to the rumours about the discontinuation of the Rs75 banknote – a commemorative note unveiled for the general public on the diamond jubilee of the country’s independence.

The commemorative banknote of Rs75 had been unveiled on August 14, 2022, and made available for the general public on September 30 last year.

The note, printed in green and white colours, has portraits of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah along with Fatima Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and Sir Syed Ahmed Khan on the obverse side.

However, people across the country faced issues to use the Rs75 banknote for transactions as several businesses are refusing to accept these notes.

The acceptance issues at the business centres spread rumours about the discontinuation of the currency note.

In a clarification statement, the SBP said that no plan is in consideration to discontinue the Rs75 currency note and it is fully acceptable for all kinds of transactions like other banknotes.

It added that the banknote was printed in sufficient numbers and it will not be printed again.

The central bank’s spokesperson added that the Rs10 coin had been launched in 2016 and there was no plan in consideration to discontinue the Rs10 currency note nor did the bank plan to discontinue Rs1 and Rs2 coins.
