Quetta Customs impounds smuggled cigarettes worth Rs120m during crackdown

QUETTA: On the directives of Member Customs Mukaram Jah Ansari and Chief Collector Baluchistan Muhammad Saleem, Collector Enforcement Quetta Irfan ur Rehman and Additional Collector Umar Shafique had expedited the crackdown on smugglers involved in cigarettes smuggling. The value of the seized cigarettes of assorted brands comes to Rs120 million.

Sources told Customs Today that during the campaign, Customs Quetta Mobile Squad recovered huge quantity of smuggled cigarettes from the secret cavities of buses and trucks in Quetta and the surrounding suburbs.

Moreover, in the past few days, Customs Quetta seized large quantity of smuggled goods including tires, cloth, diesel, gutkha, electronics and NCP vehicles.

An official said the Enforcement Quetta team had efficiently controlled smuggling within their jurisdiction. The only smuggling happening is through the ‘Katcha area’. Customs Enforcement is unable to control Katcha area without the assistance of FC.

Sources further said that FC, a long-time partner of Customs against smuggling, is otherwise engaged dealing with the security situation.
