AMSTERDAM: Dutch carmaker Donkervoort is building a limited-edition version of its D8 GTO.
To fill you in on who Donkervoort is, it’s the carmaker responsible for the aggressive take on the open-topped Caterham Seven, unveiled in 2012.
As the D8 GTO, the Seven gained huge wheel arches, snake fangs (of sorts) at the front end, big wheels and tyres along with a more pronounced rear.
Power comes from Audi’s popular five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing either 255km/h or 300km/h.
Before that, Donkervoort built the D8 GT, powered by Audi’s 1.8 litre engine producing 200kW.
The limited edition D8 GTO is called the Blister Berg; named after a private ‘drive resort’ in Germany.
Donkervoort holds the lap record for production cars at the Blister Berg track, and is jumping at the chance to release a model reflecting that fact before it gets trumped by another carmaker.
Only 14 Blister Bergs will be built, but, beyond that information, Donkervoort has released few details on the new model.
Front-end styling will be revised – as hinted in the teaser image (top of page) – and various other parts of the D8 GTO will be upgraded.
Further details are expected to be released soon, but this isn’t one we expect to see in Australia in any official capacity.
