Multan I&I adopts zero tolerance policy against smuggling: Asif Abbas Khan

MULTAN: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has paid rich tribute to the martyrdom of Sepoy Sardar Khan and other customs martyrs. Customs Intelligence is protecting the country’s economic and social borders involves the blood of Customs soldiers and officers.

It was stated by Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Asif Abbas Khan in a press conference.  Additional Director Muhammad Mumtaz Ali Raza Chaudhary, Deputy Directors Muhammad Ali Asif and Ali Tauqeer were also present on this occasion.

Director Asif Abbas Khan said that Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Customs Multan has intensified anti-smuggling activities in the Jurisdiction to curb smuggling. Customs Intelligence has carried out massive crackdown against non-duty paid goods and vehicles under the leadership of Deputy Director Atrat Hussain Shah in Region Office Faisalabad and Deputy Director Ali Tauqeer in Multan during the last two months. Directorate of Customs Intelligence Multan has seized huge amount of smuggled miscellaneous goods and vehicles in the first week of September. 

Director said during media briefing that value of all the smuggled miscellaneous goods and vehicles were more than Rs.1,410 million during the last two months of the financial year 2023-24. The seized goods include foreign origin betel nuts of 5540 kilograms, cigarettes 18,586 sticks, luxury non-customs paid vehicles , cosmetics, cloths, tires, shopping bags, dry milk, almonds, Chinese salt, cardamom, Mobile phones, engines, Rani juices and these seizes goods cases were almost 30% above the seized goods of corresponding financial year (July, August and September 2022).

Customs Intelligence severely focused on anti-smuggling crackdown to protect domestic trade and promote legal trade activities will revitalize local businesses. Due to aggressive strategy of Customs Intelligence and Investigation the value of seized goods enhanced to 87% and smuggling attempts were thwarted by the intelligence staff due to well organized crackdown by staff and Officers.

Customs Intelligence performance was praised by the superior officers have praised and admired the staff with good words and in the future, they will perform their duties with more courage and honesty. Furthermore, a special crackdown is in progress against smuggling of High Speed Diesel and millions of liters of HSD have been seized so far while further operations are still underway.

 He further informed that huge consignment of Iranian oil and NDP Cigarettes have been seized in Faisalabad on the clear directions of Director General Faiz Ahmad. He concluded that Customs Intelligence committed to curb smuggling at any cost and safeguard national economy of Country.
