ISLAMABAD: As the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sets September 30th as the deadline for income tax return submission, many are eager to know how to file their taxes online independently. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process:

Before you begin filing your income tax return, make sure you have the following details and documents handy

Salary Certificate: If you’re a salaried individual, ensure you have your salary certificate.

Bank Profit Details: Gather information on any profits earned from your bank accounts.

Income from Shares: If you’ve received dividends from shares, gather these details.

Expense Estimates: Prepare an estimate of your expenses for the year.

Filing Wealth Tax:

If you need to file wealth tax, be prepared to disclose your assets. Make a list of your assets and their respective values.

Filing Procedure:

Visit FBR Website: Go to the official FBR website (https://www.fbr.gov.pk/).

Access Income Tax Section: Click on the “Income Tax” tab.

Login to IRIS: Access the IRIS link and log in to your account.

Select Tax Category: Choose the appropriate tax category based on your income source.

Fill in Details: Enter the required details, including your income, expenses, and asset information.

Generate Online Challan: You can obtain an online tax challan on the web portal.

Pay Tax: Visit a nearby bank to deposit the tax amount mentioned on the challan.

Filing Time:

According to tax expert Zeeshan Merchant, individuals can complete the income tax return filing process in just 4 to 5 minutes if they have all the necessary documents ready.

Remember that by law, you are required to disclose your assets when filing your income tax return.
