Customs Enforcement foils bid to smuggle Iphones worth Rs1.265m through Multan Int’l Airport

MULTAN: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement has thwarted  an attempt to smuggle imported branded cell phones of worth Rs1.265 million from Multan International Airport.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Syed Imran Bukhari received credible information regarding smuggling of mobile phones through Multan International Airport. The Customs staff deputed at Multan International Airport for vigilant monitoring of passengers goods in order to avoid any clearance of suspicious goods.

During the examination of the passenger goods arriving from Sharjah by Gulf Airline flight no.G9-559, Customs teams focused a suspicious passengers holding two luggage bags and a hand carry shopping bag who trying to escape the examination at the Customs counters availing the green channel facility. The certain doubts came from the passport of the passenger that he is the resident of Lahore and arriving to Multan International Airport from Sharjah and then customs teams took the luggage in their custody for examination purpose from possession of the passenger who identified him as Muhammad Usama resident of Lahore.

Customs recovered almost 38 Iphones from the custody of accused passenger and asked him to show legal documents of the said phones during examination of luggage. But he failed to present any import evidence to Customs staff at the time of examination. Then Multan Customs enforcement teams arrested the passenger for smuggling attempt.

Collector Multan Customs has applauded the performance of the staff which has thwarted the attempt of smuggling with alertness. The recovered goods were seized under section 168 of the Customs act, 1969 and the accused was arrested for further investigation in the smuggling charges.
