ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Railways has announced a 3% increase in the fares for goods vehicles and cargo, effective from July.

This adjustment comes in response to the recent hike in petroleum product prices, which has significantly impacted operational costs.

The fare increase will apply across the country, with guidance issued to key regional offices including Sukkur, Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, and Peshawar. The Railways Department has communicated that the updated fare tables will be distributed to station masters shortly to ensure a smooth transition.

The decision aims to offset the rising expenses due to the fluctuating petroleum market, ensuring the sustainability of the railway’s freight and cargo services.

Stakeholders and customers are advised to review the new fare structures and plan accordingly. The Railway Department remains committed to providing efficient and reliable services amidst these adjustments.

Just last week, the Railways announced the launch of additional trains to accommodate the increased number of traveller due to the immense rush and overcrowding in trains during summer holidays. This initiative aimed to provide relief to passengers and ensure a more comfortable travel experience.

The newly introduced ‘Summer Vacation Special Train’ was meant to operate between Karachi and Rawalpindi. The train service was scheduled to depart from Karachi at 8:45pm and expected to reach Lahore by 3:40pm the following day.

This special service was scheduled to commence its first journey from Rawalpindi on July 5 at 12:30pm.

The Summer Vacation Special Train is equipped with 17 coaches to cater to the diverse needs of passengers. The composition of the train includes:

– 2 AC Business class coaches

– 2 AC Standard class coaches

– 12 Economy class coaches

– 1 Power train

The introduction of this special train service is part of Pakistan Railways’ efforts to enhance its capacity and provide better facilities to passengers during the peak travel season.
